Who Can Apply – Child Eligibility Criteria

    • Under 18 years old, or

Who Can Sponsor the Child?

The sponsor must be:

  • The biological, adoptive, or legally responsible step-parent of the child.
  • An Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.

     

Willing and able to provide financial support, suitable accommodation, and general welfare for the child once in Australia.

Custody Requirements for Children Under 18

To protect the best interests of the child, the following is required:

  • Written consent from every individual with legal custody of the child.
  • Legal permission from the child’s home country to allow them to migrate.

Compliance with family court orders, if any exist in Australia.

Step-by-Step Application Process

Step 1: Document Preparation

  • Proof of your relationship with the child.
  • Sponsor’s proof of Australian citizenship, PR, or NZ eligibility.
  • Health and character documentation (including police checks for children 16+).

Step 2: Lodge the Application

  • Apply while the child is outside Australia.

Step 3: Health and Character Checks

  • Undertake medical examinations and provide police certificates if applicable.
