The Australian Government has introduced the National Innovation Visa (NIV) on 7 December 2024, replacing the Global Talent Visa (Subclass 858). This new visa is designed to attract the world’s brightest minds to contribute to Australia’s critical sectors and drive innovation.
The NIV aims to bring highly talented individuals to Australia who can make significant contributions in key industries, including:
Applicants must submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) and demonstrate their achievements or future potential in one of the targeted fields. The Department of Home Affairs will prioritise applicants with international top-of-field awards or those nominated by an Australian Government agency.
Successful applicants will receive permanent residency from day one, allowing them to live and work in Australia indefinitely. The visa also provides access to Medicare and other government benefits.
